Saudi Arabia is testing a new nasal spray that it says is the most important medical product for the kingdom, as it tries to contain a coronavirus outbreak that has killed at least 1,300 people.
The Health Ministry on Thursday said it has been testing a nasal spray containing imsysera, a highly contagious respiratory virus that can cause respiratory failure and dehydration, and a nasal decongestant.
Imsysera is used to treat respiratory infections such as pneumonia and influenza, as well as bacterial infections, according to the Saudi Health Ministry.
It also has been used in treating respiratory conditions, including bronchitis, pneumonia and asthma.
The ministry said it would soon issue the first batch of the Imsysera nasal spray to the public.
The ministry did not give a release date.
ImSysera has been in the market since last year, but its production has been slow, the Saudi Arabian News Agency said.
